The GMF Store offers the 2 most commonly used sizes for ball
training. Both are made of extra durable plastic and are rated
to support up to 400 pounds according to the manufacturer specifications.
The general recommended size to height for stability ball
selection is as follows:
The
standard method for determining proper ball size is by sitting
on the ball. For most exercise applications, there should be
a 90 degree angle at both the hip and knee joints and your
thighs should be parallel with the floor when seated on the
ball.
If you are an experienced exerciser and under 5'4", you
should choose the 55 cm ball which will provide less contact
surface and require more stabilization work.
If you are new to stability ball exercise and border between
the two sizes, you may opt to choose the larger ball which
will provide more stability. Less air will provide more support
and more air will increase size and decrease the surface contact
with the ball
Or you may want to think about starting your stability program
with the new contour
ball. This peanut shaped physioroll provides forward
and back movement only and is lower to the ground.
