Our Blog & YOU!

WordPress is a beautiful thing, yet for many, it’s still somewhat of a mystery.  Nevertheless, it’s become increasingly more common as sites on the internet are moving to the open-source platform which allows for visitor interactivity with content.  Quite often, you may not even realize that you are on ‘a blog’, but if you can contribute with a comment, you are most likely experiencing the power of the WordPress platform.

As we continue to shift the old site to the new blog, our goal for 2011 is to better utilize the interactive aspect of the WordPress platform.  To that end, we have been inviting individuals to become contributors to the Gin Miller blog and, yes, YOU are invited!

WordPress User Roles

User - Many of you have already registered on the blog which allows you to post a comment on a blog post.  While this User role had previously been defined as ‘Subscriber’ it does NOT mean that you are actually subscribed to receive updates to the blog (see below) - it just means you can chime in with your 2 cents on posted topics.

If you have had problems with posting comments, it may mean that you missed the email that verifies your sign-up.  Quite often, these emails can be filtered to spam folders, so check for your confirmation emails.

Contributor - This user level allows you to submit occasional commentary as a full post on a relevant topic.   This gets you into the WordPress dashboard where you can type your piece directly into a post, edit and then submit for review and publishing.   Once a contributor’s post is approved and published, however, it may no longer be edited by the contributor.  A contributor also does not have the ability to upload files or insert images into posts.  Anything desired to appear with the post or edited after publishing will need to be handled by the admin.

Author - The next level up is for the more prolific contributor or experienced blogger and will be more prominently featured on the site. At this level, you are given the option to create posts, insert images and publish work on your own.  You can also edit posts after they have been published.

How to Become a Contributor -

After registering as a User on the blog, you can send a request to the Admin to upgrade your account to Contributor.  If you are familiar with WordPress, let us know.  If not, we will arrange a session to show you how to use the dashboard to submit your work (see below for more info).

If you are already a regular writer of fitness related content and/or familiar with the WordPress platform, we will consider your request to be ugraded to an Author.  Cross posting on your own blog and maintaining copyright are also possibilities that can be considered after review of your content and site.

What If I’ve Never Blogged Before?

No problem, as long as you have basic computer skills.  We will request that you send us by email your first post as a doc file (less than 1,000 words is recommended) and, after review and approval, we’ll set up a Go To Meeting to show you how to do your first post.  It’s really easy!

At the Very Least, Comment or Subscibe!

We love to get comments!  To do so, you’ll need to sign up as a user.  To prevent spamming, we do moderate comments, so expect a delay after posting your first comment.

How to Subscribe for Updates

To get the updates sent direct to your email address, you need to subscribe via the “eNews & Updates” Feedburner feature found in the top right index.  It’s a simple process to subscribe or unsubscrbe – enter your email address and follow the instructions provided through Google’s Feedburner.  Whenever a new post is added to the site, you’ll find a copy of it in your email the next morning!  This process also requires verification, so make sure you check for an email from our Google Feedburner account.  If it’s not been received, please check your spam folders!
